Apparently, my most recent obsession, Netflix has gone to Blue Ray (via Engadget). Not only will it be hard to find regular DVDs in only a matter of time, but like my old VHS tapes, my current pretty large library of DVDs will be obsolete. I, of course, will be able to watch them on the XBOX 360 or DVD player, but when it comes to buying new movies or even renting, it will be harder to find DVDs. Granted, it will take some time for this transition to happen, but none-the-less it will.
I understand newer, better technology is the culprit behind this heartbreaking tale but why can't the smarty pants that are creating these new fangled disks keep them in the same format or make them compatible with current DVD players or something? It seems that every ten or so years something like this happens. So maybe I should switch over to Blue Ray now so that I can get the full benefit of having them for the ten years they will exist before something better comes along and squashes these.
Or I can be like one of those people who are currently stuck in the 70's with their 8 tracks and refuse to upgrade to Blue Ray. Why conform? It's done well for me and I enjoy my dated technology! Kthnxbai
